"We're moving on up.."

"we're moving on up...
to the eastside...
to a deeeelux rehab ...
in the sky"

or so the tv tune goes.

Today, Tuesday March 27th, 2007, is moving day for Dan. His new home will be:

Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago
345 E. Superior Street
Chicago, IL 60611
312-238-1000

The facility is one of the best,* with exercise areas that have unobstructed views of Lake Michigan, and will be Dan's home for ??? no one knows. They are only one of a few rehab facilities in the USA that can take patients like Dan, who has both limited mobility and is vent dependent. This is a very proactive environment, meaning "no progress" and you're out of there.

Dan will be out of bed everyday -- he's been on his back for 18 days -- and will have many sports-like trainers working him over. Daily he will go through a full battery of exercises for his vocal cords and swallowing, internal breathing challenges, and movement of his body. We will be intently involved also.

He's making his "psst" sound, as it is time for me to do his morning exercises. We will print more later, but just wanted to thank you for your prayers, especially about Dan getting a good night's sleep last night. THANK YOU.

The Knudsen's

* The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago has been recognized as the "Best Rehabilitation Hospital in America" since 1991 by U.S. News & World Report. No other specialty hospital has been consecutively ranked the "Best" by U.S. News & World Report for so long.

It is amazing to see God at work! Praise His Name! There is so much to say, but not enough words to convey my joy for Dan's move to rehab! Praise God for the small miracles, and the big ones, and all the ones that keep us going, including Dan's sleep. We will never stop praying or remembering you all in ours prayers and thoughts. :) God bless!

Blessed Be Your Name byTree 63

1)Blessed be Your name in the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow,
Blessed be Your name
And blessed be Your name when I’m found in the desert place,
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed be your name

2)Every blessing You pour out I’ll turn back to praise
And when the darkness closes in Lord, Still I will say

Chorus:

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

3)Blessed be Your name when the sun’s shining down on me
When the world’s “all as it should be”
Blessed be Your name
And blessed be Your name on the road marked with suffering
Though there’s pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

Repeat 2), then Chorus

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name

Repeat 2) Chorus (oohs) Chorus

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name

We told Dan pretty soon they'll let him go outside and what better way to enjoy warm spring days than walking (Mom and Jen), wheeling (Dan), jogging (Mike), and biking (Dad) by the lake!

Debbie, Bill, Dan and ALL the family. RIC is GREAT - just look at Jennifer. She was there for two months and thanks to all the prayers, God's Blessings and the hard work of the staff, Jeni and the family members involved in the rehab, she is where she is today - a true miracle from God.

Hey Dan and Knudsen family,
You don't know me, but I go to Cedarville and I've been praying for all of you as often as I think of you. I thought I'd share something that I've found encouraging in my life when I feel overwhelmed with anything. Anytime I'm cleaning out old papers, reading journal entries, looking at my calendar or sorting through old e-mails I really see how God has been faithful to me. Tests I had to take, relationships that were strained, areas where I needed wisdom. I may have forgotten about these things in the busyness of life, but seeing them in writing really brought them back. I realized that this blog is the same way. Look back over all that God has done since this first happened. From the people God brought along in the first few minutes, to the successful surgery, to good sleep, to sustaining your attitudes and allowing you to be a blessing to so many people (as evidenced by the myriads of comments). Sometimes it's encouraging to just look back at the "grace that has brought us safe thus far"... the grace that will "lead us home."
I'll be praying for the move today. Grace be with you all!

Yea!!!! Soon Dan will be up and his mind and body will be filled with new challenges...less time to just think. We're praying for sweet rest in both mind and body for all of you as you deal with this "portion" that God has given you. We love reading all the blog comments and just worshipping and praising God for encouragement and His faithfulness!

We think this move deserves another blue sports drink celebration! :-)

Loving you through Christ,

PTL!!! I am glad to see that you will be getting a better view on the world. We are praying for a good recovery period. We'll continue to pray that you will get restful sleep and that your mind will be revitalized as your body is being exercised. Praise God also for outside time!

Hey Knudsen Family,
I'm a student at CU and have been checking this site from time to time. My brother (a graduate of CU in '05) actually knows Mike and Dan, from OPE I believe.
My grandpa was in an accident that bruised his spinal cord and so the injuries that happened to Dan really hit close to home for me and my family. I am so overwhelmed by the positive outlook you all have, especially Dan. You are right, God does have a purpose in all of this, even though we may have no idea what it is. It's so cool to sit back and see God's hand through all of this though, with the living arrangements and just how things in general are panning out. I want to encourage you to take a look at Psalm 33:6-9 as you think of all the ways God has provided for you!! You all are in my prayers.

Praise the Lord Dan! I'm so excited for you to get to have a window. Yes, God is good and praise Him for your good night of rest. "It will be worth it all when we see Jesus, life's trials will seem so small when we see Christ - so bravlly run the race til we see Christ." Oh Dan, your life is such a testimony of love from God and He does have a plan. Keep that wonderful attitude "be not weary in well-doing for in due season you shall reap" Love to you - Szot's from Washington

There is a lovely family at our church who had a son who had meningitis in his brain and was very physically and mentally disabled because of the lack of oxygen to his brain after a seizure. After being at RIC for only 2 weeks, he is walking, talking, functioning... basically back to normal except for some double vision. The family only had WONDERFUL things to say about what RIC did for them. This is great news that Dan is going there. God is at work! Keep hangin' in there! Keep those updates coming!! Praying!

Hey cousin Dan!
Reagan has prayed for your leg. I almost started to apologize, since that is all he prayed for--one leg. "...and help my friend Dan's leg to get better..." but then I reconsidered.
Reagan has heard our conversations and prayers, but he processed only this one part about your leg. In asking him what he meant, he recalled the warmers to help circulation that were put around each of your legs.
So, Dan, even though he prayed for only one leg, and even though you didn't get the "cousin" status you deserve, he is praying each day for you.
It's good to know that when we pray, whether it is all too much to remember, or we don't "get everything right" God hears...

We've read every word of every post and every comment and are so thankful for honor & glory our great God is getting. Your response to each new challenge is such a blessing to us. We are praying for you all...all the time... and we love you so much.

We've heard so many good things about RIC from so many people - we will be praying for continued progress!

Love you all - Stan & Sue

...awakened in the wee-hours for 'no reason at all' ... I figured it was to pray...and thus more were said on your behalf. Truly He sustains us and provides for all our needs. Be encouraged.

Much love.

We join you in praising God for the provision of RIC! We continue to pray for each of you - to be courageous when fear is lurking, to be strong when weakness seems to be attractive, and to be patient when the waiting seems too difficult to bear! We are praying you continue to sense HIS PRESENCE in "exceedingly abundant" ways!
With much prayer through the day and night...............

Hello Dan and Fam,

We are so pleased you are moving on up!! I told the kids, you really needed to work hard at this place and my son, Stephen said, " Dan's a hard worker and he is not a quitter. He is going to do great there." Hi Dan,

Just wanted to let you know that the Lohner family from Iguala, Guerrero is praying for you. We have been checking your blog to see the advances in your healing. We serve a great God! We rejoice in that you are now in the Rehabilitation Institute. Time to WORK! You can do it!

Thank you for the days that you spent at the camp, putting the things that God has taught you into the lives of our children. Joel was in your cabin in the older camp. He was impressed by your giving of yourself to them and your special gift to each of your boys, their own Cedarville t-shirt!

We will continue to stand with the people from all over the world, praying believing God for a complete healing in your life.

Keep your eyes on Jesus during all this time, taking every thought into captivity. And remember...You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!

With love,
Mark, Anna, John Mark, Joel, Esther, and Grace Lohner

Dear Dan and family:
I just want you to know that you are in my prayers and deeply in my heart. I first heard about your accident through the chapel broadcast on the PATH. I have two children at Cedarville and this is how I keep in touch with happenings on campus and grow in the Lord at the same time. My heart has been touched so deeply from the moment I heard and I have been praying for you. I know God has placed a burden on my heart to pray for you and I will be faithful in this.
Because of Him...

Hey Dan and family,
You don't know me but I'm also a student at Cedarville. Dan, although we've never met, I know who you are and I was always encouraged when I saw you. Everytime I see you at school you have a smile on your face and you're usually laughing. Thank you for letting the joy in your heart shine through. I've been praying for you everytime I think of you. God brought this verse to me one day after I had been praying for you and I wanted to share it with you.
"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Heb. 4:16
Can't wait to see your smiling face back here.
