Specific Prayer Requests

Big sister just wants to add specific requests:

Dan had a stable weekend. He is off most medications, his trach looks good, he is very bored with his ICU "just lying around" life, and is ready to move over to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, on Monday or Tuesday. We hear they'll give him a good workout!

  1. Please please please pray for Dan to sleep well at night.
  2. Along that line pray for quietness in his mind, for the Lord's overwhelming peace to surround him and quiet his heart and mind, which will be a big factor in helping him to sleep.

We're entering a new phase with this process: the mental one.
The Enemy wants every one of us (especially Dan) to worry and fear and question God.
But God wants us to rest...rest on Him.

Yours prayers in this matter are HUGE...thank you so much!!!

Hi Dan,
Just read the blog by your big sister. I read it everyday. My husband, John and I pray for you every day Dan, and for your family. Sounds like you have a wonderful family and a wonderful extended family with your church and Cedarville College. Sounds like you have received the best possible care and the immediate response after the accident that was absolutely critical for your life.
When you are bored, just start thanking God for everything that you can think of, even the little details. God loves a thankful heart. It is a sacrifice that He blesses. I started thanking God sometime back for the institution of marriage among other things and then specifically for my husband, John. It has just been amazing how God has put a much deeper love in my heart for John.
Also when you are bored, you might try listening to CDs of Bible teaching, uplifting music and watching good videos.
Amazing as it seems, you can also be a prayer warrior for others with needs that you are aware of. So you may think you can't do anything. Wrong! Just wait upon God day by day and He will show you how He will use you.
We pray that God will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus and supply all your needs according to HIS riches. (He owns the cattle on a thousand hills).

I've been praying throughout this night (and each night as I think of you)that you would sleep well, Dan. I'm also praying for all of you each day that you would be refreshed each day amid the tedium that a hospital stay brings. Just looking back over the way that God saved your life, Dan, I can't help but think how much He loves you and has a plan for you. Don't be discouraged, but dwell on God's love for you and care to this point!

Dan and family,
It's amazing, the power of God's Word and His people that know it, pray it, live it, and share it. It has been awesome to see the scriptures in the blog comments. Ones that give strength and encouragement even to me who lives an ordinary life serving Him with a good mind and body. Even yet, the scriptures and deep thoughts of care and love for God and you by others, bring tears to my eyes as I read daily each blog. I can imagine what it must do for the family at this time in this situation. His Word is powerful. May it continue to lift you up always. Even though I don't know you Dan, or your family, God is still burdening me to pray for you. He lifts me up just seeing His Word put forth in each blog and comment. They are contant reminders that He IS God and what He does, can and will do for each of us if we just take Him at His word. It makes me thankful. So if nothing else you see, comes from this, His Word has been proclaimed, and God's name has been lifted up. To God be the glory!
Prayers from Seattle

An old song just came to me:

"Praise The Lord"
"When you're up against a struggle,
that shatters all yours dreams, and your hopes have been cruely crushed by Satan's manifested scheme. And you feel the urge within you to submit to earthly fears, don't let the faith you're standin' in, seem to disappear.
Praise the Lord, He can work through those who praise Him, Praise the Lord, for our God inhabits praise, Praise the Lord, for the chains that seem to bind you, serve only to remind you, that they drop powerless behind you when you praise Him.

Hello,
My name is Taylor and I'm in Tuscaloosa, AL. I was made aware of Dan's story via Mike, one of your family friends. I must say Dan's response has been nothing short of inspirational.
A little back story about me. I am a spiritual person too. I'm a theatre major and I just recently went to New York City for the first time and stayed with friends while I had auditions (I posted about this in my blog). While I was there, God taught me so much in 4 days. Things I needed to know about myself, about the world around me, and about my personal relationship with Him.
Now to bring it full circle. One of the things God taught me is that all I need in the end is God. Reading your blogs and seeing Dan and the families reactions/responses has shown me how it should be done. Your faith and strength amazes me. I do not know why this happened, and I know God has a reason, but you better believe I will be praying for Dan and his family. He seems like someone I'd like to know and one day hope to hear from. I'm sure you'll hear from me again.

Sincerely,
Taylor

P.S. I also read about the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, and whats funny is a woman at church told me I needed to go visit them when I move to New York. I guess I will definately have to check them out!

Hey Dan,
The Lord was showing me His greatness yesterday. I had lost contact with a friend from highschool. I have prayed all this past semester for the Lord to just protect her because I hadn't talked to her. Out of no where the Lord gave her my number and she called me. The Lord has protected her and she loves her new life in Ohio, but the cool thing is that we were just catching up and we were talking about Psalm 119. Oh, man! I would type the whole psalm in here, but I pray that someone might read it to you if you want. A couple verses that stood out were: "I have chosen the faithful way; I have placed your ordinances before me. I CLING to Your testimonies"-30,31. " THis is my comfort in my affliction, that Your word has revived me"-50. "Your hands made me and fashioned me; Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments. May those who fear You, see me and be glad, because I wait for Your word. I know that Your judgements are righteous, and that in faithfulness You have afflicted me. O may Your lovingkindness comfort me, according to Your word for Your servant."-73-76. "You are my hiding place and my shield; I wait for your word"-114. Sorry it's so long. I haven't had time to write lately. The pastor at Riverside was talkinga bout being above the circumstances in life. That situations happen, but Christ is our example and the Bible is full of others who imitate Christ. So Dan, 1 Peter 1:13, "Prepare your minds for action". I am praying that you and your family will keep preaching to yourselves God's salvation and promises of rest and comfort, and also that you would put on the armor of God, and Hold Fast!
In Christ alone,

Hello, Dan and your family,
I got the link to your site from my Pastor, Roger Ball, on his weekly prayer requests. I am so glad that Dan is a strong believer in Jesus; he knows that prayers from sisters and brothers in the Lord continue for him, and he can add me to that list! I pray that Dan and all your family will continue to reach for, and depend on Jesus' love and grace, wisdom and strength, as he continues the healing process. I don't pretend to know why this happened, but I know that our God will keep Dan as the apple of his eye, and will not leave or forsake him.
Your sister in Jesus,
Peg Burch

Bonjour Dan and family! Amy Hollins here, graduated from CU in '05 and am now a missionary in France (so your bro can add France to his stats). :)
I saw a link for this blog through Dr. Brown's xanga and just started reading... wow. I recognize your picture and fear your were in one of my "getting started" small groups, maybe not, but if so - sorry if that was a dissapointing experience! :) anyway, not that it really matters...
Reading through these posts, I've just been so amazed at how God has provided amongst all the difficulties. Esp in the beginning with all those medical people who were there. I can't wait to check back on your blog and see how God continues to work - we may not know on this side of eternity how He will use you in this situation!
Know that I'm praying for you and your fam from across the pond. The CU bond is strong - but of course even more is the bond we have as brothers and sisters in Christ. Think on the cross and the glory and hope of the resurrection. - your sister in France, Amy

Bill,Deb and family-
Since the first Wed. night at Awana after Dan's accident when Madeline asked for prayer for her cousin, I have been praying. The stories of "what happened" where varied that night, I wasn't sure exactly myself so I just told the girls that even though we don't know exactly what to pray for, we know God knows ALL and He is in control of the situation.

As I pray for you I keep coming back to a devotional by Lisa Beamer titled HOLDING ON TO HOPE she writes "So when tough times come (and they will), holding on to hope doesn't mean you pretend your troubles don't exist. Instead, you "expect" or look forward to a time that will be different, and you trust in God with all confidence because of the many things he has accomplished in the past-throughout history as well as in your own life. Holding on to hope means choosing to trust-even in the midst of dark realities." She goes on to say she has chosen hope, she writes "It's not because I'm a strong person. It's because I have faith in a strong God..." Her life has been an encouragement to me as she has gone on after the death of her husband, Todd, on 9/11. I hope it will encourage you.

I have also been praying Ephesians 3:14-19 for you and your extended family: "When I think of the wisdom and scope of God's plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit. And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. (New Living Translation)

Hey Knudsens,
We are praying, praying, praying and rejoicing with every bit of progress - step by step, He leads you and you keep right on following! He is with you - He will NEVER leave you or forsake you. Take great comfort in that! Phil 4:16 Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and suppplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Keep focused on Him and He will give you peace and rest! WE LOVE YOU, Jan Stern

Hey captain scratch! and family. I just want you to know that I'm praying for you guys, mustly you Dan though. and if I can stay faithful in praying, how much more will God stay faithful? I hope that this whole story will be a 21 century Job, that God took everything away just to give him SO much more then he ever had. May you stay faithful and know that God wouldn't have done this if it wasn't the best thing for you life, for you to show him you love. God has worked great things in my life because of this insident, and I know he has been working in yours as well.
Hang in there Cap.

p.s. I'll take care of cabin 1 for you!
