2nd Saturday Updates

Up to the minute information of what is going on with our Dan. Please pass this blog on to all.

  • Dan's feeding tube was placed in his stomach, and he was very glad to receive food through it as they had made him wait all day to "eat" until after the surgery.
  • Dan is in great spirits -- we've laughed, read Scripure, answered a lot of questions, even took a family photo.
  • Dan will have surgery on Tuesday to have a screw placed in the vertebrae. The doctor was hoping the halo would suffice, but when sitting up, the vertebrae tends to slide backwards because of the slanted angle of the C2 fracture.
  • Surgeons are waiting until then to do the tracheostomy.
  • We're still asking the Lord to allow Dan to breathe on his own.

We read to Dan every blog comment, facebook message, email, ecard and get well card that comes in. He loves to hear from each of you. Thank you for temporary housing, financial gifts, food cards, other gifts, snacks, kind words of encouragement, but especially your prayers for our Dan. They mean so much to us.

Bill & Debbie, Matt & Emily, Jen & Jeff, Mike, Dan, Gabriella & Adelina too!

Psalm 3

3 But you, O Lord, are a shield around me;

you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.

4 I cried out to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy mountain.

Hey dan, this is Chris Stern...just wanted to let you know that I've been praying for you along with a lot of my friends. Here's a verse that has been a great encouragement to me......Psalm 94:17-19 "If the Lord had not been my help, my soul would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence. If I should say, "My foot has slipped" Your lovingkindness, O Lord, will hold me up. When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul." I love you man! His grace is enough!

Dear Dan and all the Knudsen family,

This is Pastor Craig Miller from Grace Baptist, Cedarville. From the time I got the message from Brian Nester about your injury, Dan, I have prayed for you and the family. We had a special season of prayer for you in our prayer service last Wednesday, and I will be asking people to continue to uphold you in these next few days leading up to the surgery. So many of the students that my wife and I minister to know you well, Dan, and speak of you and your brother as great examples of faith and of friendship. The reports of your testimony even during this time have encouraged me, and many others as well. I am asking God for some pretty big things for you, but I don't hesitate to do so since He can speak a universe into existence and this is small scale for Him. If there is any way that I or the church family here can be of more help to any of you, please let us know.

Yours in His Grace,
Pastor Craig, for the Grace family too.

Hey Dan, this is Brandon Stern. I just wanted to let you know that I have been praying for you and that I have also got my church here in Louisville praying for you. The verse I want to share with you is 2 Cor. 4:17-18. It says "For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal." I love you and look forward to see how God will continue to work in your life.

Dan,

Hey buddy!! This is Garrett Boyer. Man it has been such a long time since I've seen you guys. I just wanted to let you know that I've been thinking about you and praying for you these past weeks. I'm so glad to hear that, in spite of your injuries, that you were on a missions trip in Mexico! How awesome is God that He should use you to do His work. The Lord is so pleased with you Dan! He smiles at your obedience and blesses you. As I was praying, I felt the Lord wanted me to tell you this: You are an awesome man of God and you have a place in Heaven. But now is not your time. You were chosen to do great things on the earth and the Lord wants to use you. I know things might seem rough and hard to understand but remember that you are a child of GOD!!! What more could we ask for? The Lord provides, cares for, heals, and absolutely adores His children. He will NEVER give up on you! I wish I could come and see ya but I too am going on a missions trip. I am with an organization called YWAM (Youth With A Mission) in Montana and in a few days I will be going to India for two months. I promise I will continue to pray for you and your family while I am there. Please keep me in yours. The Holy Spirit is upon you and I know that as long as you have faith, the Lord will be faithful to you. He loves you Dan, more than you know. I'm glad to hear a little about the work He has done in your life so far and am excited to see what He does through you your remaining days on the earth. God bless and stay strong, the Lord your God is with you, always!

Hey Dan,
I e-mailed my friend in Florida last weekend to ask her to be praying for you! She wrote back and said she already had been as a missionary family that she knows knew someone who knew you! I was awed at how God's people are so connected - all over the world! You are so loved and being prayed for! We have been praying for you at Oasis and in our small groups too. We even took one of your "cool dude" photos off the large photo board and put it on a board all by itself so you are really well noticed:) Give thanks to the Lord for He is good! His love endures forever!
Love,

Hey Scratch,
Thanks so much for coming down here to sharpen an old OPE brother, and his students, at camp. Sorry you missed the baptism service the last day at camp…they tell me that’s the first time we’ve ever had one during camp! Thanks to God’s working through you and the rest of the team, two seniors stepped up in obedience to Him in baptism, and it was awesome!
My wife Jenna just told me a cool story. Apparently, you and one of her students, Eial, spent some time one night at camp looking at the stars. Eial was pointing out constellations that he learned about at school, and you reminded him of our great God who put those constellations up there for us to enjoy. Our prayer is that you continue to remember, and enjoy, that great God to whom you consistently pointed our students while you were here. Hope to see you back in Mexico someday.

Hey Y'all,
Aunt Retta checking in to let you know we are in constant prayer for you. You have many, many prayer warriors praying for you from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Texas. One lady in our neighborhood stopped Turner and said she was praying for his cousin. She is a nurse and prayed after a member in our sunday school class shared with her what had happened in Mexico.
When your dad called us from Mexico, everything stopped. Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle John, Aunt Kathy, Uncle Johnny and your cousins prayed. I was overwhelmed with the thought of God's children coming boldly to the throne of Grace interceding for our precious loved one. What a rich heritage--a praying family.
Prayers for your whole being,
Uncle Johnny/Aunt Retta

my name is Emily and I grew up with Janelle Becker who you worked with in Puebla. I've been praying with her for years. She sent a special update after your accident asking for prayers. Truthfully, I've been having an on and off time lately with the Lord and hearing your story not only encouraged me but really kicked me into gear. I know it is hard to imagine how your pain can be part of God's triumph but focus on the amazing testimony you will have once you recover. I don't know you or your family but I wanted to tell you that your story is not just about people who pray daily praying for you but about people like me, who slip away now and then, starting to pray again just to pray for you and it grows so quickly from there. I begin to pray every day and so, there you have it, a missionary still, to people you've never met. God is so good. may he touch you with a special sense of peace today. I live very close to NMH and if ever your family is in need of visitors just post an open call and I will stop by.

Hi Dan,

We were missionaries in Oaxaca, Mexico for three years, so our kids have gone to Puebla camp in the past. We REALLY appreciate the ministry of the Cedarville students. So you have been regularly in our prayers since the day of your accident when news traveled very fast through the mission connections. May God be with you day by day in this journey. We pray for healing for you and know that you have a powerful witness. God bless you!

Hi Dan! Hi Bill and Debbie!

Just wanted you all to know that you, Dan, and all your family are in our prayers. Our boys ask for updates often so it's nice to have the blog to read.

Your extended church family at FVBC are all lifting you up before the Lord. That's the awesome thing about faith in Christ...though you may leave the building...you are never absent from the Body.

Dan, we know your faith, and that you have a heart to bring glory to your God. He has allowed you to begin a journey where only He knows you're headed. He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful(1 Cor 1:8,9). We'll be praying for you to that end.

Blessings in Christ,

Scott, Taffy,

Dan and Fam,

Praise God for the outpouring of love from His body. This accident has already caused so many people to rise up in prayer and praise to our great God. What a blessing for you to be used in that fashion. We pray for you daily and are looking forward to what God will do with and through you in these new circumstances. I can't imagine what it is like to be in your shoes, but your countenance and your reaction to this hard time have encouraged me and my family to trust God fully and to praise Him for His sovereign works.

We'll continue to pray as you begin your road to recovery.

Your fellow fighters for the faith,
Josh, Moriah, and Charis Huff

Dan,
You don't know me personally but I have cut your Dad's hair for years. Your parents were strategic in my conversion to Non Denominational Christian and I am thankful for the part they have played in my past life.
My nephew played basketball against you and your brother at Swedish Day competition in Geneva about 5 years ago. I told him about your accident and asked him to share with all his friend and to pray for your complete recovery.
And know Our God lays beside you to continually lift you spirits and work to heal you.

Dan and Family,
I am a friend of Dave and Donna Shaver, located in Tempe, AZ. In 1980, after being married for just 93 days, I was in a head on car accident on my way to work. I sustained a C2 fracture, with no significant spinal cord damage. I, too, wore a halo. I had many broken bones, and lots of internal injuries. But God gave me such a supernatural peace! Perhaps the greatest gift was waking up in ICU, with the familiar face of Donna Shaver as my nurse! (We have been friends since high school.) My breaks were ALL straight across, and healed with NO permanent damage. I did break my kneecap and also had 17 stitches in that knee, and to this day my knee can predict rain! :) Be encouraged. God is a miraculous healer. Our church and Sunday School Class (First Baptist of Tempe) have been praying for you. In 45+ years as a Christian, one thing I know for SURE is that GOD IS FAITHFUL. With the struggles comes growth, but not the way we would choose. So many lives have already been touched by your situation, God is MIGHTILY AT WORK!
May God bless you moment by moment, hour by hour.

My name is Matt Morgan, and i was also one of dans "assistant counselors". Dan i just wanted to say that God definitely used that incident for His glory and although you were not with us personally we knew you were there in spirit. Also i just wanted to let you know that God worked in the lives of many that day due to what happened. Some people were saved, and praise be to God! But there was something else that was equally incredible to me... and that was seeing a whole body of believers praising God and lifting up His name... a body of believers praying, on their knees for a miracle. It was one of the most beautiful things i have ever seen. And after praying all afternoon, to know that God heard and answered our prayers... i mean WOW... Our God is truly great!! Your God, Dan, Your God is truly great... and He is with you right now. I can tell you that even though you are in a different country right now and in very different circumstances, your attitude has greatly impacted me. Thank you! and praise God.
You are in our prayers!! Love you man... take care and continue to rest in God.

You have been put at the top of all of the prayer lists.

There are literally thouseand of Nc folks lifting you up in prayer.

Dan,
God has great plans for you. You have to trust him with a child like faith that you can feel in the depth of your soul. He loves you more than your mind can begin to comprehend. Trust him. Get to know him in a way that you never hanve before. He is a God of mercy and grace and great comapssion.

I believe in miracles. I am one. I was so lost and alone once. I was so broken - not like you - but a different kind of broken.Every shattered dreamj - every hurt - they are healed and restored in my life today.

I can tell you that I am not broken or lost or alone today. I know the Lord of my life - my saviour my friend.

I have great and mighty faith for your healing Dan. Complete healing. Read the stories of Jesus in the New Testament. Learn who he is really is.

You rest in the knowledge that you are loved by many and held up before our Father in prayer every day.

We are looking forward to the good report of your complete healing Dan:)

Dear Dan (and the Knudsen family),
Dan, I know we've never met but my husband and I are friends with Jen (she stayed with us when she came out to visit Jeff and we did lots of CU theater stuff together). I just wanted to let you know that we are praying for you and know that God will use you in mighty ways! You are in an amazing place of ministry even if you may not realize it at the time and you have a captive audience, your doctors and nurses that care for you. As a nurse myself I can't tell you how many times I have been amazed at people's faith and the light that they shine for Him when they are faced with trials. And I can say that every nurse on our floor was touched by those families and were ministered to by them maybe even more that we ministered to them.
I know that the road ahead is uncertain and maybe long but I also know that we have an AMAZING God who is carying you along and is with you every step of the way. Our continued prayers are with you!

This is the Leman family. Ed, Jeni, and Divya (Nate and Matt are across the Pacific). WE-ARE-PRAYING-FOR-YOU! Today the FVBC Jr. High SS class spent a long time praying just for you and your family. The kids were very willing to hold you up to the Lord and many participated that usually shy away from praying out loud.

I was trying to pick a good verse out of Romans 8 and was having trouble narrowing it down. Then verse 26 popped out at me, "Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." You can't get a better prayer warrior on your side than that!

God Bless You!

The Lord is GOOD!!! HE IS GOOD!!! He IS WORTHY!!! He is MOVING!!! I love you so much Dan..my brother, my great friend. On Friday, it was such an amazing time of praise to Jesus, the AUTHOR AND PERFECTOR OF OUR FAITH!!! I praise God for your life man! You truly live a life of praise. A life of WOrship!! Thank you so much for letting Jesus transform your life! It is SO evident where your heart and where your worship lies. ITS WITH CHRIST LORD!! we don't deserve his love man...you are in the place you are in BECAUSE OF HIS LOVE!!! dude, you are not in the hospital right now just because you landed on your head. Oh no!!! Dan, God has you there for a reason. His eternal glory displayed through our lives!
hey, Im gonna post a couple verses from ephesians, in the message version. Its so rich and full of life! YES!

Eph 1:8-12 He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ,a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth. It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living,
part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.

Amen Jesus!!! Oh Father, heal Dan, He LOVES you Father!! He seeks your face! Bring about your glory through Dan's life, bring him peace and let his mind rest in you! He is bedridden for so many days because YOU HAVE HIM THERE FOR A REASON. Oh Lord, that he may pull closer to you than ever before, that you would fulfill his life as you have predestined it from the beginning.

I love you so much Dan!!! Our times of fellowship were so wonderful!! Thanks for being the coolest, the most chafe, cabin man. your love for Christ is so deep:keep the fight man!!! Let his love RULE your life! THe Father hears your voice. HE HEARS YOU!!!
