What's New?

I told Dan that we haven't posted in a few days, and we both said at the same time that not much has gone on -- Dan is still flat in the strange bed!

Good news, though: Dan has had only one slight headache in the past week. Bad news: he has zero appetite and has some blisters on his feet.

Really special news: Dan said thank you to a respiratory therapist after she suctioned him, and she said that in 7 years, that was only her second thank you. The resident doctor said that Dan is the only smile on the floor when they do their rounds in the morning. Dan's resident doctor from RIC said that spinal cord patients are angry, so staff is not used to pleasant attitudes. Praise God for His working in Dan's life. That is a result of your praying for him.

Happy Fourth of July! (Of course I brought decorations for Dan's room.) I always wanted to see the Chicago fireworks, and I thought maybe from Dan's hospital room we could, but there was one building in the way, so we watched them on TV. (Chicago has their big show on the 3rd.)

We'll be back to RIC on Friday as far as we know. We hope Dan will be able to resume therapy quickly after being flat for two weeks. Something to pray about! :o)

Dan, thank you for reminding me that all our "lights" look different than the next person's.... You have been an awesome and bright light to the staff at both locations (in addition to all of us in blog land).
This post reminded me that I need to maintain my focus on Jesus, so that my light is shinning bright. So many times it is easy to get caught up in life, and we forget about the giver of our light.... Your blog keeps me grounded!
I thank God for your family!
Happy fourth!

Happy Fourth of July, Dan! I hope you had a good day, and I pray that you will continue to bless the lives of so many. Your story has changed me and my relationship with God. It was amazing to be there when this whole thing started, at camp with you. I was worried. I cried even though I don't really know you that well. Thanks for being such an inspiration to me. You rock. Get well soon.

Hey, thanks for the update. Really hope everything works for Friday trip back to RIC. So awesome to hear about how your attitude is making an impact. Hope the appetite comes and the blisters go. Miss you a lot. :-)

Bless your heart, Dan, even from your bed you are showing us what it means to "walk the talk."

Dan, what comes to mind is, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all your heart!" and your smile is proof that you love God and delights in doing His Will. God bless you and know that you are loved and prayed for each day many, many times. Love Gramma

Dan,
just wanted to pass on a neat verse the Lord has been showing me over and over the last week or so....it's in psalm 16.
"I said to the Lord, 'Apart from You I have no good thing'". the rest of the psalm is awesome as well...

He's reminded me over and over that He has given only good gifts, and isn't sitting up there with a "AHA! here is something good I won't give them" mentality." Just a thought as you go about your day! He loves you!

What a testimony you all are! I haven't left a comment for a couple months, but i've been checking in and praying often. Dan, you have been such an encouragement in my walk with God. You continue to magnify God, to show us through your life more of what He is really like. Keep our focus on Him always!

A little sidenote, it is through this blog that i reconnected with Michael Crino. We were both at camp in 2006, and i knew he had accepted Christ then but had heard nothing for over a year (i was not at this last camp). It has been awesome seeing how he has grown since then. Just another, relatively small, positive God is bringing from all this.

**oops, i meant "keep your focus on Him always," not "our focus," but yes, thank you for helping us realign our focus as well.
