3 years

It has been 3 long years, but I thank God for every minute.
Some days move right along, and it doesn't seem like too much in my life has changed. Other days (the ones you can all relate to) just drag on and on, when everything that could happen does, and the glaring defects of this sin fallen world are painfully obvious. The latter type I would argue are in fact far more beneficial for mental, emotional, and spiritual growth.
I am going to try to create a word picture. If you light a candle and let it burn in your house; no surprise, it will most likely stay lit without problem. But if you take that candle outside on a windy day, then it doesn't stand much chance of staying lit. You could, however, build a fire big enough to withstand the wind. Think of yourself as the flame in my example. Two things to remember: 1st You can be preparing for the winds that will come in your life by continually "building up your flame" through Jesus Christ, and 2nd sometimes you won't know how much you needed to prepare, and then you will instead face the need to respond, and the only acceptable response has to be that Christ is all I need; Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Thank you for reminding us that Jesus is all we need.

Hard to believe it's been that long! Strange, but I can still recall exactly where I was when I heard the news of your accident. It's been amazing to see God's hand all along the way, from the point of need immediately after the accident, to the specialists you've been able to see along the way, to the way you've returned to campus to complete your degree. You don't know me, but I've consistently read your blog and prayed for you many, many times over the past 3 years. God is good all the time. May God continue to use your disability as a platform for praising His Name and proclaiming His Goodness. Thanks Dan (and your family) for sharing your hardships, blessing, doubts and joys for these years.

Hey Dan,
I've been following your blog for going on 2 years now. I don't remember how I came across it but I did. (And Alex Malarkeys also). Well, last month my cousin Linda from Cincinnati was in Georgia with her 18 yr old daughter looking at colleges and they were in a horrible car accident that left Linda paralyzed from the neck down. She is now in the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. She is an amazing person, just like you!! She smiles and has a positive attitude that will help her and her recovery. (I know that because I read your blogs). One other thing I want to mention. At the same time I came across your blog I also came across another blog, (I don't remember how I happened on this one either), but it was about Matt Logelin, , his wife passed away after their baby was born and he shares his life as a widow and single father. Well, my husband passed away suddenly on December 22nd, 2009, (we have 3 children), and I'm drawing strength from you and Matt. I don't think it's a quincidence. I didn't go looking for these blogs, especially 2 years ago! I'm glad I did. WOW, Thank you Jesus. I feel like I was pre-prepared for these life changes. Anyway if you have the time to maybe share some of your love and advice with my cousin Steve, (Linda's husband), that would be so appreciated. Thanks Dan. Marlene: memkd@carolina.rr.com

Personally, we are so proud of your perseverance and example to our kids. You continue to work hard, be an example and trust in the Lord. The Loker family remembers you well here in Oaxaca. Never a year goes by that we do not think of you when the kids leave for Puebla camp. I've enjoyed keeping up with you through this blog. Bless you as you persevere and make sense of evidence of this sin-filled world.

Hey Dan,

From a fellow Cedarville student... I just wanted to say thanks for continuing to write. It has been and continues to be encouraging to read this and it's always a blessing to see you around campus. I hope the last few weeks of this semester go well for you--May 1st is almost here!

Dan,
You are still my inspiration as well as my cousin Linda,I send her your blog comments and she draws her strength from our Lord and you, as well as her family. She is still at The Shephard Center in Atlanta and maintains a positive attitude most of the time. Thanks for sharing you love for our Lord.
